TowSense modification pathways
Modifying a light vehicle in Queensland
Queensland distinguishes minor, basic, complex and specific modifications. A category name alone does not establish that your complete build is exempt from approval or certification.
Complex modifications, including mass re-rating, must follow a Queensland-approved modification code and be certified by an appropriately authorised Approved Person. Specific modifications without an approved code require TMR approval.
Prepare the exact vehicle details, current ratings, existing certificates and proposed parts. Ask the Approved Person or TMR to confirm the correct route before work, particularly for a GVM increase or combined changes.
Changes to registration particulars must be notified to TMR through the applicable process. Interstate certification is not automatically recognised in Queensland; confirm acceptance before registering an interstate modified vehicle.
Prepare a modification evidence worksheetFree evidence preparation for four modification groups across all eight Australian states and territories. No approval or certification is provided.

Confirm the complete modification package with the relevant road authority and an appropriately authorised certifier before proceeding. The paid TowSense assessment is also advisory.
