TowSense modification pathways

Modifying a light vehicle in Tasmania

Transport Tasmania identifies modifications affecting vehicle performance or compliance as requiring inspection and certification through the Approved Vehicle Certifier Approved Inspection Station (AVCAIS) system. Confirm how this applies to your actual proposal.

Use the official Approved Vehicle Certifier (AVC) contact list and check the relevant modification-code authorisations. Discuss the complete build before ordering a GVM kit, suspension package or other significant changes.

Prepare the vehicle specifications, current and proposed ratings, existing modifications, parts documents and installation details. Ask which evidence, tests and inspection stages are required.

Book any required modification inspection directly with an AVCAIS and confirm the subsequent registration requirements. If the route is unclear, contact the light-vehicle Vehicle Standards team; this guide does not certify the vehicle.

Prepare a modification evidence worksheetFree evidence preparation for four modification groups across all eight Australian states and territories. No approval or certification is provided.
